Tadoussac is worthy of visit!
The village of Tadoussac definitely captured our hearts. It is a very small town of about 900 people that is focused around the whales of the St. Lawrence.
During our visit we visited the whale museum which was more like a whale information and preservation centre. It was full of information on the whales of the St. Lawrence and ways we can change to reduce our negative impact on their existence. It was quite enlightening as we learned about the various whale species (13) and their habits. Humpback whales have the most notable vocal versatility and also migrate in the fall from the northern waters to the Caribbean. We may be migrating with them 😉
We were able to see first hand what draws the whales into the St. Lawrence. The krill are one of the main food sources for the whales and the St. Lawrence is rich with the small critters. We were able to find many of them stuck in tide pools until the next high tide.
We were lucky enough to see a pod of Minke whales right in the mouth of the Saguenay river at Tadoussac. It seemed there were at least 2 in the pod. It was quite difficult to catch them on camera!
Tadoussac is a tourist town driven by the whale watchers. It is end of season for them so it was very quiet. We found some delicious date/nut bread at a local boulangerie (bakery). Of course we stalked up on baguettes and croissants as well.
Internet is challenging here so we will post more pictures of Tadoussac later.
