Our boat is a Beneteau 393 Oceanis Clipper.  She was purpose built for blue water sailing and is one of the most stable platforms from Beneteau.  While she is not large, she is strong.  We have the 3 cabin version with shoal draft to accommodate our family and our island adventures.

She is powered by wind and sun.  We’ve added a cruising spinnaker and a folding prop to keep her efficient even in light winds.  She is powered by solar panels and each sunny day will provide 3 times our power requirements with plenty of battery storage to last a week if the sun doesn’t shine (need music and cold drinks).  As an emergency backup, we have a 56HP diesel engine.  Our experience however is that the “Iron Genny” is rarely needed for electrical power and is mainly used to get in/out of marinas (we plan to do very little of this).

We named her Saphira Blue.  Saphira Blue is a blue dragon who is inextricably linked to her rider.  She will protect her rider at all costs for if her rider dies, so too will she.  The bond is strengthened through strong morals, mutual respect, care, kindness and good judgement.  We will keep her healthy and strong and she will take care of us.

We have prepared her with safety as the primary objective.  She has backup equipment for all major systems to keep us safe and moving when things break.
