Almost to Montreal

An early start to try and get to Montreal ahead of schedule.  It started out with us breaking a speed record as we hit 10kts through a narrow section with a strong tail current.  We were soon foiled by the lifting bridges.  We waited a total of about 3 hours for 2 bridges to open.  They open the bridges as needed for commercial traffic but pleasure craft have to wait until commercial traffic comes along. Good progress today……

We made awesome progress today through three locks (Iroquois, Eisenhower and Snell) despite a significant sailor’s bane. AWA – Apparent Wind Angle – the angle of the apparent wind with respect bow….  ie. standing on the bow. Looks like we are trying again for the cast-off date.  September 20th….. or there about.  So much work….. We have packed our 3000 sq ft house into a 300 sq foot boat in exchange for a much larger back yard!  The Life Raft, EPIRB and AIS  Recovery systems have all been installed.  (all items we do not plan to use but are necessary for a well found boat).  Many of the items we have brought on board  may be unneeded…
